![]() Hey, look! It's a 4 wheel drive that occasionally leaves the pavement! We're the organizers for an event for S-10s/S-15s/Sonomas/Blazers/Jimmys/etc. It's been a lot of driving since December of 1998, when we decided to buy a four wheel drive vehicle, primarily for the purpose of ensuring we could "go now, if needed". This was related to a family health issue. But after we bought it, we found out there are still places where you can take a 4x4 to have FUN! |

| In early 1999, I found out about a local VA/MD/DC club called the Off~Camber Crawlers. They seemed to be a good group of people who shared some of my values, i.e., responsible off roading with a family focus. So in May, I hooked up with them to ride a little and to clean up along a road near Harrisonburg VA. Here are some pictures I took of the Blazer after that trip. Some of my other pictures, along with those of other club members are on the linked page. |

It's fun to see it occasionally cleaned up, too. |

North of Corolla at the VA/MD state line |
In August 1999, we drove the Blazer on our annual trip to the Outer Banks. We generally stay in Nags Head while we're there. On this trip, we went to Corolla and drove up the beach to the VA state line. You could go further north if you walked, but the warning signs about snakes and wild pigs discouraged us from trying it. We also went south into the Hatteras National Seashore area. Sorry, no pictures turned out. I killed the camera with blowing sand and salt. Three words of advice for driving on sand, "AIR WAY DOWN" |

"Dad! You got it all dirty!" |
In October 1999, we drove the Blazer on the OCC Fall Foliage Run to Madison County VA. Nice easy trip. Beautiful scenery. The club 23 trucks/SUVs including many guests. One of our guests writes for the Washington Post travel section. He had never had his Exploder off road before. I wish I could copy you his story as it appeared it the December 12, 1999 Post but copyright laws preclude that. Let's just sum it up as the weather was gorgeous, the day wa a lot of fun, the fellowship great! These pictures show the Blazer crossing the Rapidan River at a ford and coming home to hear the Resident Teen complain because the truck was dirty. | |||

Coming out of the stream at Old Long Run |
One of my favorite trails remains Old Long Run Road near Rawley Springs VA. In fact, the OCC has adopted it in an effort to keep it cleaned and in sufficient repair to remain open. Here are a a couple of pictures from a work/ride trip there. Notice the left fog light is missing. The club has removed a decaying bridge originally built by the Youth Conservation Corps. Before we got the slope right where we replaced the bridge with a ford, I drove through and broke the foglight on the bank. I've since re-located the foglights to a spot ABOVE the bumper. |

Consulting the maps. New Territory in the GWNF |
Thanksgiving weekend, 1999. A group of OCC members and guests on an exploratory trip through the German River area of the Dry River Ranger District in the GWNF. Exploratory means that it is OK to get lost, which we did a few times. But not for long, fortunately! The weather was beautiful, the company great, and the scenery outstanding. The roads left a little to be desired though. They were all the graded dirt "improved" roads that make up the bulk of the GWNF roads these days. Well, at least we had a few days of rain before the trip which created several mudholes, much to the delight of several people on the trip. |

| Although I promised myself faithfully that I would keep these pages up to date and fresh, I've not lived up to that. When the opportunity arises, i'm proud to say that I've made choices to take care of real people and do real things, even at the expense of this virtual place. Some of those choices have been to update and maintain other virtual places. Until I get around to bringing this page up-to-date, take a look at the Capital Off Road Enthusiasts webpage . Many of my trips and adventures are documented there under the Trips tab. | |||

| My four-wheelin' time has also introduced me to the whole concept of conservation and responsibility for the environment in a new way. I invite you to take a look at: Also take the time to check out some other S-10 vehicle-related sites: |
